I tried to send you some stuff but you comedy MS Exchange system rejected the mail with not error code. I'm guessing it couldn't handle the size of the attachment. So I have sent you an invitzation to Google Mail. Set yourself up an account and email me your address and I will send the stuff there.

This isn't about language - it is about perception, consciousness, vision and cognitive response

In this case, language is merely a medium to show how our learned expectations don't necessarily match the facts.

Last Monday I was flying to Scotland for a few days to have a chat with a few of our customers up there. I thought I would show them due respect so on Sunday afternoon I popped into Marks and Spencer and bought a new suit. When I got home I set to making our Sunday roast dinner so didn't think about the whistle until about eleven that night when I went to pack. To my annoyance I found this bad boy attached to the arm. Clearly the assistant in the shop had missed it when he was putting the suit in a bag for me. At first I wasn't too bothered. Windows 8 Logo

Over on the Microsoft Windows Team blog they have been discussing the new design of the Logo for Windows 8 and the history of the Windows logos. I always find it fascinating how logo's evolve over time (for example IBM ) and it is especially interesting when the designers explain what they had in mind. Apparently one of the key observations was from a designer from a top agency who observed “ your name is Windows. Why are you a flag? ”. You've got to love designers. If something is stylised they say it should be more literal . If something is literal they say it is too obvious. They get paid either way. I think it is pretty clear that in reality the old Windows logo reflected the rich Aero style interface while the new one reflects the starker more angular Metro interface introduced in Windows Phone 7. However, given that it appears that Windows 8 is going to have both Metro and Aero , perhaps this might have been more appropriate?

Saving an email directly to the file system from Lotus Notes

I have pretty much lost count of the number of times MS Outlook users who have been upgraded to Lotus Notes have asked me how to save an email either to their file system or to their desktop. The most commonly stated reason for this is so that all the emails, files and documents related to a project can all be saved in one folder on a shared drive. Most organisations now recognise that collaborating through shared drives creates a whole raft of problems including security, duplication, compliance and the inability to find the "one version of the truth". This capability is pretty much redundant to Lotus users since they have many ways of collaborating including Teamrooms , Quickr Places , Wikis , Blogs and Connections Communities . These tools include access control, search, versioning and all the various features that promote good information management.
