Oh the shame!

As a parent you do what you can, but there are some things that are out of your control. Despite our best efforts it is looking like Lucy is going to be a south paw. A left hooker. Left Handed! Apparently surgery can't help. It look like she is destined to have bad hand writing, an inability to use scissors and an artistic temperament. At least there is a store she can go to visit others who have the same condition...

Obviously I'm joking and we don't care. Both my Mum and Sister are afflicted. But this article is very interesting. And there really is a store for left handed freaks folks. You can find it here.

It is amazing in this day and age that there's no cure. Even if you were to tie her left hand behind her back for several years, thus forcing the correct side to improve, as soon as you remove the ropes her brain would take over and she'd start using the sinister hand again.

Still, this is the 21st century. People don't point in the street, and she doesn't run the risk of being tried by an angry mob wielding pitch-forks and blazing torches. Well, not in Camberley anyway, but perhaps they still do that in Barnes.

Both of my two are lefties. I don't think anyone else on moth sides of the family is, so I don't know how they've managed that.

Last Monday I was flying to Scotland for a few days to have a chat with a few of our customers up there. I thought I would show them due respect so on Sunday afternoon I popped into Marks and Spencer and bought a new suit. Windows 8 Logo

Over on the Microsoft Windows Team blog they have been discussing the new design of the Logo for Windows 8 and the history of the Windows logos. I always find it fascinating how logo's evolve over time (for example IBM ) and it is especially interesting when the designers explain what they had in mind. Apparently one of the key observations was from a designer from a top agency who observed “ your name is Windows. Why are you a flag? ”. You've got to love designers. If something is stylised they say it should be more literal . If something is literal they say it is too obvious. They get paid either way. I think it is pretty clear that in reality the old Windows logo reflected the rich Aero style interface while the new one reflects the starker more angular Metro interface introduced in Windows Phone 7. However, given that it appears that Windows 8 is going to have both Metro and Aero , perhaps this might have been more appropriate?
