Enough is Enough - the Spammers have to go

I wrote a while ago about the problem of Spam on Web Logs. In essence, I really hate Spam but didn't want to ban anonymous comments. I prefer to know who is commenting but I don't want to mandate it. Fortunately a new feature of www.blogger.com has come to my rescue. The new Word Verification feature simply asks a commenter to type in a word that is displayed as a picture cunningly foiling automated Spam agents.

So if you have a Web Log hosted on Blogger then go into settings, then comments and select Show Word Verification to banish this scourge. I'm now off to try and post a comment to see if it actually works.

Ah, Mr Ports, I can't help but notice how uncommonly witty and attarctive you are.

Speaking as an anonymous poster I must agree that Mr Ports' countinance is most appealing

Ah ha, Mr Ports, I see that this spam blocking technology does nothing to improve your spelling.

Aah Mr Ports, you forgot to use a word such as philanthropic. of course, I can see right through your obviously mis-spelled words... they're designed to throw off such sycophants as me.

Do I sound like you yet?

I see Blogger has prepared a 'word' for me to type... I wonder what a 'yvhunwhk' might be..?

Mr Ports... sorry to er... change the subject, but...

I love IBM as much as anyone. They had an iffy moment back in the early 90's but they came back fighting, and I will not hear a bad word said...

But, what is with all the boxing paraphernalia of late? I don't think it's befitting a company that once boasted a million black suits/ties and a company songbook to use such barbaric imagery.

Hrumph.

Ian, as someone who loves IBM you should be happy that IBM is taking the fight to the competition. We have spent quite some time quietly being the leader in many fields and now it is time to make some noise.

Oh, and yvhunwhk is an ancient yak.
