"I want that one"



I had a brilliant meeting today with a UK national newspaper company who are using Lotus Notes Release 5. This has been out for about 6 years so is beginning to show it's age and Lotus have done loads of work to it in later releases. So I was demonstrating the new features in the current Notes 6.5 release, Domino Web Access and Sametime integration. Every time I showed a new feature, the senior managers were looking over to the Domino Admin guy saying "I want that now". I started to feel a little sorry for the guy as I was creating him more and more work as I went on. Still, it was nice to see the look of relief on his face as I showed them what was coming in Notes/Domino 7 and when the managers predictably asked to have it now I told them that they would have to wait because it won't be released until summer.

Ports. How do you get the trucated 'Posts' list? Is it part of the template or have you done some magic coding?

@2 Tony - it isn't a truncated list. I just haven't written very much yet :-)

@4 Tony - I have looked into this and am totally baffled by your truncation problem. I tried applying your .sidebar-title CSS stuff to my Web Log and it changed the look but didn't change do the truncating (as you would expect). However, the list of items is just being retrieved using $BlogPreviousItemTitle$ (I presume) so I cannot see where the truncation is taking place. Odd.

Last Monday I was flying to Scotland for a few days to have a chat with a few of our customers up there. I thought I would show them due respect so on Sunday afternoon I popped into Marks and Spencer and bought a new suit. Windows 8 Logo

Over on the Microsoft Windows Team blog they have been discussing the new design of the Logo for Windows 8 and the history of the Windows logos. I always find it fascinating how logo's evolve over time (for example IBM ) and it is especially interesting when the designers explain what they had in mind. Apparently one of the key observations was from a designer from a top agency who observed “ your name is Windows. Why are you a flag? ”. You've got to love designers. If something is stylised they say it should be more literal . If something is literal they say it is too obvious. They get paid either way. I think it is pretty clear that in reality the old Windows logo reflected the rich Aero style interface while the new one reflects the starker more angular Metro interface introduced in Windows Phone 7. However, given that it appears that Windows 8 is going to have both Metro and Aero , perhaps this might have been more appropriate?
